The numbers are staggering. It shouldn't be this way.
25%
-
25 percent of all Asian Pacific Islanders in the U.S. are under the age of 18.
-
Higher Rates of Depression:
Studies indicate that Filipino American youth, particularly girls, experience higher rates of depressive symptoms compared to other Asian American subgroups and even non-Hispanic white adolescents.
34.5%
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavioral Surveillance System found that suicidal thoughts are more common particularly among adolescent Filipina women, in juxtaposition to any other women of color, as they also experience greater risk for suicide attempts when compared to other ethnic subgroups.
4.5mil
As of 2022, there were nearly 4.5 million Filipino Americans in the United States, making them the third-largest Asian American group, after Chinese and Asian Indian Americans.
With that number, we should have resources readily available for them to be empowered with.
32%
Birthplace and immigrant roots play a role in who is most likely to hide their heritage: 32% of U.S.-born Asian adults have done this, compared with 15% of immigrants. Among those born in the U.S., second-generation Asian adults (in other words, those with at least one immigrant parent) are more likely than third- or higher-generation Asian Americans (those with U.S.-born parents) to have hidden their culture from non-Asians (38% vs. 11%).

You are the hero of your child's story.
When I was little, in a little Midwest town, I joyfully rode my red tricycle, across the street a small boy taunted,
"Chocolate girl! You're a chocolate girl!" Suddenly I felt uncomfortable in my own skin.
I had never felt this way about myself, enough to run to my Mama's arms! She said, 'You know what? Women all over the world pay money to have skin like yours.'
I had been promoted. A sage of wisdom, perspective and confidence was passed down to me that day. Needless to say, it was the last time I would ever feel at odds about myself.
Unfortunately, for many girls, the hero never became the guide.
But, this is my favorite part, you get to change the course. You get to be the hero with rich positive stories to shape their futures with hope.

This is a book you can spend a long time pouring through, reading the words and enjoying the art. It’s also a great starting point to inspire further research."
"Beautiful and so fun and educational."
